Over the next eight years, he held positions as head varsity coach and assistant varsity coach at Oregon City, Estacada, Rex Putnam, and Clackamas high schools.
Among his many accomplishments as an assistant coach, he helped Putnam win the league championship and get to the State Final Four in 1990. He assisted in getting Clackamas to a second-place finish in the 1994 state championships. As a head coach, he took Estacada to the state playoffs in 1989.
He guided Clackamas High boys basketball from 1994 to 2005. His teams earned league championships in 2001, 2002, and 2003, and he is the only coach in Clackamas history to win three consecutive league titles. Clackamas advanced to the State Championships in 9 of 11 years under his leadership.
Clackamas was in the state playoffs in 1997, 1998, and 2004. They made the “Sweet Sixteen” in 1995, 1999, 2002, and 2003, the “Elite Eight” in 2001, and finished third in state in 2003.
